Which Media Player?

During the process of developing this website and making the audio files available online, we have tested the three most popular media players. These are:

Quicktime v6.5 (produced by Apple)
Windows Media Player v9.0 (produced by Microsoft)
RealPlayer 10 Basic (produced by Real)

Other media players may work (for example WinAmp), but we were just trying to make audio files available in the most convenient way and not write a dissertation on audio file format compatibility.

Having tested all three media players, and having approached the tests with different ideas and favourites, it appears that RealPlayer 10 may be the easiest media player for us to recommend. It is not necessarily any better than the others, but certainly it is a good piece of software and it works well in our tests.

The reason we liked RealPlayer was because it worked well with the streaming technology used to deliver our audio files across the internet. Technically speaking, RealPlayer handled the RTSP protocol by default and had no problems playing back the audio files without any need to configure the software after installation.

INSTALLING MULTIPLE MEDIA PLAYERS
It's not uncommon to want to install more than one media players, but be careful! If you're not at ease changing file types and their associated applications, just install one player.

Uninstall any media software than you think may cause problems. Windows users should go to the Add/Remove Programs control panel and uninstall programs from there.
