GENESIS Part 1
The first Eleven chapters of the Bible go to the beginning of everything in the cosmos. '. In short, their purpose is different. The first Key to open this vast area of study is not to be found in arguing about such words as 'evolution' or 'proof' but rather in the word 'relationships'. (If your group wants to discuss evolution, make sure you begin by defining all your terms.)
The 1st Agenda. The relationships between the creator and His creatures, between God and Humankind and between mankind and planet earth, between man and woman, man and his brother (murder in the first generation), man in himself (what is guilt? Why is he always dissatisfied? Is Genesis 3 v 24 a clue? I.e. no way back into innocence).
Relationships are at the heart of all technology (viz. The Tower of Babel, chapter 11) and, if you have time to discuss it, what do you make of Genesis chapter 6 v 1-8? Could this be about a genetic sequence, which went wrong and therefore demanded a fresh start? (i.e. 'The Sons of God' = Adam's descendants - Homo sapiens and 'Daughters of Man' = proto man)
The Core.
The core of all our media today and our history and our stories is relationships.Genesis chapters 1-11 focuses on all the core relationships of our existence.
Experiment. Together read Genesis chapter 1 noting the order of creation with each 'day' meaning 'age' or 'era'
Group Sharing
A. Did the eye blindly evolve and, as a result creatures could see? Or Did the eye evolve in order that creatures might see?
B. All differing opinions agree that something is wrong with mankind. What is the root of the problem? Does Genesis chapter 3 help? (Original sin was not sex, verse 5.What was it?)
C. Some theologians say 'Pentecost was the reversal of Babel' (Genesis chapter 11 verses 1-9) Do you agree? If so - why?
The Bible word for a committed relationship is 'Covenant'.
Private optional preparation for next week's Group meeting:
Read:Genesis chapter 12 verses 1-9,Genesis chapter 15 verses 1-7,Genesis chapter 17 verses 1-7.
Ponder Point:In Genesis chapter 4 verses 3-8. Why did God accept Abel's offering and not Cain's?
Does Hebrews chapter 11 verse 4 give an answer?
