In the five major things Jesus said about the worship of God, surely the most vital is this one-worship is for God.It is not for us:our opinions are irrelevant. Yet, to hear us talk, you'd think that the Christian faith was packaged in some spiritual supermarket in which we browse: 'don't like those kind of hymns'- 'can't stand all those silent funereal folks' - 'hate all that arm waving and jigging about'- 'it did nothing for me.'- 'no one spoke to me.' - 'I didn't enjoy it at all.' STOP. Worship is for God, not for us:and Jesus said God actually seeks his children to worship him.
True worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshippers the Father seeks. John 4:23c
Why does God seek true worshippers?
Surely God is not some almighty egotist, who loves to be thanked and praised and preens himself in his creation's adoration? No, indeed:the very opposite. God seeks us to worship him, not for what it does for him, but for what he does for us, when we do it.The same roof of your soul you lift open to the sunlight of God's glory in praise, is the very lid through which the light of life now, at last, can penetrate all the dark and dirty corners of the houses which we call 'us'.
Whom does God seek?
Answer: all his children, so that in the encounter he can make them more like his sons and daughters.
Why does God seek us?
Answer: to equip us for life in his realm, which all great painters have tried, and failed, to picture; all the great composers tried, and failed, to extol in their music; all the great scientists have sought to discover, and failed: His world is his kingdom, where all his children, like the father, are creating in power, moving at light's speed: ecstatic in colour, form, music and love's being, for which we were originally designed, and for which God wants to prepare us.
There's only one word for all of this - 'heaven'. ( I Corinthians 2:9-10)
Eye has not seen nor ear heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him,but God has revealed it to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God.
A Prayer Vision:
"Changed from glory into glory, till in heaven we take our place ....... lost in wonder, love and praise"
Now read Revelation Chapter 21.
