These last 4 or 5 days we have been looking at that most terribly abused and misunderstood word 'worship'. It means so many different things to different people. So we have examined what Jesus said about worship when he was speaking with a Samaritan woman by Jacob's well in Sychar. In a few words he made it plain that the place you worship is not important - that all worship is for God - it's what pleases Him, and not us . It's about what he wants, not what we want. It is necessary to have some knowledge of God or you might be worshipping a figment of your own imagination, which is an idol - that the worshippers God seeks and wants are those who come to Him, in Christ, in Spirit and in reality. Those are the five basics of Christian worship, and then Jesus personalised it - nailed it down. The woman, perplexed by having all her pre-suppositions demolished, lamely said: 'Well, I don't know, I can't be too sure - but one day I will, when God's anointed ruler comes, then he will make it all clear to me, and all like me ...'
The woman said "I know that Messiah (called Christ) is coming. When he comes, he will explain everything to us." Then Jesus declared: "I who speak to you am he". John 4: 25-26
That's when all the lights came on.
A Prayer: Thank you Father that all true adoration and praise, all real and personal relationship with you is rooted, focused and is through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Now read John Ch.4: 4-26, and to see what difference it made to the woman and the village of Sychar. Read on to v.42.
