So here we are entering the door of another year. Millions of people have wished 'a happy New Year' to millions of people. And I am not all that sure what the phrase means, except a pleasant greeting like "all the best", or "many happy returns", but although I do wish you well right now, I would like, much more for you, than merely to be happy.
Being happy depends on nice things happening to you and in all probability lots of not so nice things will happen to most of us, but indeed we don't know what this year will bring - nor this week - nor even today.
The Bible is much more down to earth. God knows that our feelings go in and out with the tide, they blow hot or cold with the weather, even what we had to eat or drink last night. The Bible speaks to our wills and our minds, not so much to our feelings. he calendar may change, but unless I change my relationship with God and other people then its going to be the same old me trudging into a brand new year. How about this for a picture? Imagine it's not the door to a New Year, but the door to a new you, and a new me. The door is inside us! Jesus said: Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me. Revelation 3:20
That was the word of the Living, Risen Jesus, to part of his church, and remember it's addressed to people like you and me.
A Prayer:Thank you Lord that despite your greatness you knock on my heart's door and wait, for you made the handle to be on the inside only .
Now read: Revelation 3: 7-13.
